The following images were taken along the coast of the Phang Nga Province. This region was hardest hit by the tsunami in which thousands of people lost their lives, families, homes and productive way of life. Predominately made up of Burmese immigrants (often entering Thailand illegally), their well-established fishing villages were completely decimated. The federal census had not recorded an accurate number in local populations. As a result, thousands of unknown lives may have been lost at sea or buried in the rubble and may never be recovered.
Other images in this gallery depict the awesome power of natures fury in Khao Lak, the resort area of Phang Nga Province.
